FATEL FIRE KEEPS FIREFIGHTERS BUSY ALL DAY- MAY 9, 2015
On May 9th, 2013, the LFD received a call at 1500 hours reporting a fire on the second floor at 735 Williams Avenue. The dispatcher transmitted a possible house fire code 30(a member or a relative of a member of the LFD) at 735 Williams Ave. 305 laid a 5 inch line from the hydrant to the house. While the hydrant man was "hitting" the hydrant, the nozzle man and back-up man stretched the first attack line to the door. When the hydrant man charged the line, he radioed the chuffer of 305 to charge the first attack line. About 5 minutes after 305 had the first attack line ready, 303 got on scene. 303 went to search the building but when they got the front door and opened it, a backdraft accord and the 1st floor blew up. 303 was told by 3010 to vent the roof. The Truck Co. crew went to the roof and started to vent. The officer of 303 contacted 3010 via radio contact and told him the conditions he had on the roof. All of a sudden, the Truck Co. crew on the roof heard a crack and the roof gave way. The officer fell in the roof and died instantly due to the heat of the fire. The nozzle man and back-up man quickly opened the nozzle and attacked the fire. It took about 30 minutes to get the fire under control. 302 got on scene at the same time as 304 and 306. 302 stretched a 2nd attack line for a back-up and waited for instructions. The fire was put out at 1838. The crew of 305 removed the officer of 303 when they located him. As firefighters were looking around the house for signs of where the fire started, the crew of 304 located the girlfriend of the Captain of 305. The crew of 305 removed the body and stopped all operations to salute the fallen member and girlfriend.
TOYS R US BURNS DOWN- APRIL 30, 2015
On April 27, 2013, the LFD dispatch received a call reporting smoke around her apartment building had smoke around the outside. While the dispatcher reported smoke in the area around 391 Franklin Avenue, smoke started coming towards the fire house. The dispatcher quickly reported a signal 10 and all trucks were on scene with-in 5 minutes of the fire being reported. 305 was first due and stretched a 5 inch line from the hydrant to the truck. 305 then stretched a 1 3/4 inch hose and started attacking the fire while 303 crews were venting and searching for victims. Chief 3010 reported a signal 12 with-in 50 minutes of the fire being dispatched.
2 ALARM HOUSE FIRE- APRIL 14, 2015
On April 14, 2013, at 1348 hours, the dispatch center received a call reporting a bedroom fire at 355 Mill Road. The dispatcher recognized the address and realized it was the same house that burned on March 7, 2013. The dispatcher quickly put out the call over the pagers and radios. 305 reported 21 with-in 1 minute of the call being dispatched. 305 t-boned the hydrant and had a hydrant connection before the first attack line was stretched. In the mean-time, 305 chuffer reported a signal 10 (confirmed fire). Truck company 303 got on scene just as the engine was stretching the first attack line. 303 chuffer and roof man were requested on the roof and 303 iron man, officer, and can man were requested to do a primary search. 303 roof man and chuffer vented the roof and were going to move the ladder to the second floor window to vent the main body of fire when an explosion occurred on the second floor stair way and started a fire in the attic. 305 quickly requested all mutal-aid units responding to double it and send to trucks from each department responding. The mutal-aid units were- Legowood fd: 312 and 318, Legomere fd: 355 and 352, Legomere Park fd: 336 and 339, Legorence Cedarlego fd: 325 and 326, Lego Stream fd: 344 and 346, and Lego City fd: 7208 and 7304. All fire was put under control at 1603 hours. At this time, all mutal-aid units were sent back to their own departments and 306 and 302 respond back to station 2. 305 and 305 stayed on scene extinguishing hot-spots till 1756 hours.
UN-RESPONSIVE PERSON- APRIL 5, 2015
On April 5, 2013, at 1930 hours, the Legotown dispatch office got a call with a woman stating that her husband was not getting of the couch when she called him for dinner. She stated that she walked over to him, his eyes were closed, and he fell on the floor. When chiefs 3010 and 3012 got on scene, they told the dispatcher to transmit a signal 32 via radio contact. (signal 32- re-tone the original alarm) 306 responded and got on scene in less then 5 minutes of reporting the signal 32. #06 members got a back-board and carried the victim to the police ambulance that pulled up 2 minutes after 306 got on scene.
MVA W/ ENTRAPMENT ON HEWLETT PARKWAY 3/8/15
At around 1400 hours, the Legotown FD distpatch center recieved a call for a over-turned car with people inside. When chief 3011 got on scene he wanted 306 to respond only. Nozzle and back-up team 1 were standing by with the line while H-man and the rescue BU-man held the hurst tool and cut the door open. The 40 year old women was transported to Mercy Medical Center with non-life threatning injuries. No firefighter injuries were reported and crews cleard the scene at around 1456 hours.
HOUSE BURNS EARLY IN THE MORNING 3/7/15
On March 7th, 2013, the Legotown Fire Department responded to multiple calls for a house fire at 353 Mill Road. 305 was 1st due and t-boned the hydrent. 305 transmited a signal 10 for a 2nd alarm. 303 had vent operations and 306 had primary and secondary searches. 302; the second due engine, streched a hydrent length (5 inch hose) and a second attack line ready in case of over come of firefighters. The call came in at 0659 hours and firefighters had the fire under control at 0756 hours. Overhall operations started at 0800 hours and all firefighters cleared the scene at 0846 hours.
